Editorial Mother Muse

Editorial Mother Muse

A few months ago, the ladies at Plaid and Paisley Littles Boutique asked me if I would be interested in shooting an editorial for them, for Mother Muse. Being a fan of the magazine already, of course, I said yes. Plus, I needed to shoot something different, and I am always in for a good collaboration that boosts my creativity. Well, let me tell you that I was not disappointed. Brandi, Bryttani and Brookelyn had something specific in mind, and it was a bit different from what I usually shoot. But the truth is that I liked being pushed, I liked getting out of my comfort zone.

Create RetreatFashion Photography Workshop

Create Retreat

Last October, I flew to California for a fashion photography workshop called Create Retreat hosted by two of my favourite fashion photographers who are based in the US: Lara Jade and Emily Soto. To say that I enjoyed this workshop is an understatement. I met so many wonderful people at the retreat and I learned so much from Lara and Emily. Plus, we stayed at a gorgeous location, as I showed you in this article.

I already posted some pictures of Bailey that I took at the workshop. Now, it’s time to share some photos of the two shoots we had during the retreat. We were able to work with an entire team of stylists, make-up artists, hairstylists and models. The whole experience was great and I recommend any photographer interested in learning fashion photography to attend the Create Retreat Workshop. Emily and Lara are open books, they share a lot and they would answer any question. Plus, they are the sweetest and it was a real pleasure to get to know them more.

For the first set up of the Create Retreat Fashion Photography workshop, we shot inside the house with model Paulina. Emily Soto had set up a backdrop and some lights. The thing is I really liked that set up and now I want to use more artificial lights for my shoots. But I am still a bit shy about it and I need to practice more, so if anyone wants to play, let’s do it together.

I have edited all my photos with the Tribe Red Leaf and the Tribe Archipelago presets.

Meanwhile, Lara was shooting outside with another set up and a second model…

After the first shoots, the models changed outfits and then we moved outside. We started with Lara and the gorgeous Brea dressed in a beautiful hispanic style… beautiful!

Alberta fashion shootPart Two

Alberta fashion shoot

This was my first Alberta fashion shoot and I was pretty happy about it. I had this vision like I explained in my previous blog post (see Part one of my Drumheller fashion shoot) and I could not wait to execute it. After the first part of the shoot in the desert, we found these outstanding cliffs with more greenery and decided to shoot there just before sunset. The light was so beautiful, creamy and soft. After a quick outfit change, we shot a few more images there, just before heading back to Edmonton.

These images are probably my favourite images from this shoot. Melody’s make up, her dress, her hair, the landscape… everything seems to be fitting perfectly. I styled this shoot myself and I gave Amanda and Melissa my entire trust for the hair and make-up. And I think they did an amazing job! I love working with other creatives, I love trusting them because this is when people gets more creative and deliver something that is even better than what you were expecting.

This shoot turned out to be one of my favourite of 2016… so let’s hope that 2017 will be full of even more great shoots like this!

A big thank you to Cammielle from Mode Models International for introducing me to Melody who is a doll. Plus, it’s amazing to work with her. And last but not least, she is absolutely gorgeous and super photogenic. I’ll re-shoot with her anytime!

Another big thank you to Amanda and Melissa for the make-up and hair. These two are so good at their job, it’s insane. I would highly recommend them for sure.

Drumheller fashion shootPart One

Drumheller fashion shoot

I photographed this Drumheller fashion shoot last summer and I never posted it. What a shame! It was one of my favourite shoots of 2016 and if you follow me on Instagram, you probably have seen a few sneak peeks.

I had this shoot in mind for a long time. A desert, the light, a girl with a long dress and a hat… I just had to find the perfect place to execute. And because I don’t live in California, or near Joshua Tree, I thought I could never do it. Until someone told me about Drumheller… it’s a special place in Alberta where they basically discovered traces of dinosaurs. There is actually a famous dinosaur museum there. It’s a super cool place.

So, I started to plan my shoot. I contacted Amanda, a make-up artist I met in Edmonton a few weeks before. Then, I contacted Mode Models International, a model agency based in Edmonton. They booked me the most gorgeous girl. Her name is Melody and just remember her face, I am pretty sure she will become famous soon.

Please, enjoy the part one of my shoot…

Urban shoot in Edmonton

Urban shoot in Edmonton

I started to follow blogger and instagramer Robin from My Closet Journey on Instagram (where she is a boss by the way) because I just love her style and personality. I found her through mutual contacts and friends as usual. So, when she contacted me for a photo shoot, I was even more excited! We decided to do a urban shoot in Edmonton because I love exploring my neighbourhood and it fits her brand for sure.

That girl is beautiful, passionate about her job and so fun to shoot with. You should definitely follow her if you are a fashionista in Edmonton. I see a bright future for her!

Second part of our photo shoot in Downton Edmonton… I am a fan of weird textures and coloured walls. And it can be an issue in Edmonton where all is brown or red brick but we were able to find this greenish wall. I was a happy girl! And don’t you think it fits Robin’s outfit so much!!! Ha!

Dying to get those shoes…

More to come… stay tuned!
